How to Make 11 Spring Outfits with Pieces You Already Have in Your Closet

This past year my husband and I have been paying extra attention to our budget. With the birth of our daughter and COVID happening, we just thought it would be wise to save the best we can. I am sure many of you can relate to this. As I was thinking about updating my wardrobe with new spring pieces, I realized I could make many outfits with the pieces I already own! Now, I still may want to add a few new staple pieces, but I decided I can make what I have work. All you have to do is get creative and wear your staple spring pieces multiple ways.

If you are looking for a few spring outfit ideas with things you may already own, I’ve got you covered!

Here is what you’ll need: a cami, white or light colored cardigan, white and light denim, white sweater, chambray top, oversized shirt, graphic t-shirt, blazer, high waisted shorts, joggers or leggings and a mini or midi skirt.

As you can see, you really only need a handful of items to make multiple different outfits from. I have come up with with 11 classic outfits for you to copy, but I certainly could have come up with more!

Outfit #1: White Cami, White Cardian & Jeans
This type of outfit is perfect for a casual date night or lunch with the girls!

Outfit #2: Cami, Blazer & High Waisted Shorts
This is another fun date night or girls night out look. You could wear it with heels if you want to dress this look up a bit.

Outfit #3: All white everything! White cami, cardigan & jeans
You can wear this look to brunch, errands (with sneakers), lunch, date night, etc! So many possibilities.

Outfit #4: Cami, Cardigan & Mini Skirt/Skort
I love this look for date night or girls night out. My husband really likes this look, too! 🙂

Outfit #5: Sweater & Midi Skirt
This look is great for brunch, church, work or date night! I tucked my sweater into my bra to make it more cropped.

Outfit #6: Sweater & Mini Skirt
This look is essentially the same as outfit #5, but the mini skirt is more playful and casual. This is a fun date night or brunch look. Just like outfit #5, I tucked this sweater into my bra to make it cropped.

Outfit #7: T-Shirt & Joggers
If you’re in need of a cute, comfy running errands or hanging out at home outfit, this is it! If you have a denim jacket, tie it around your waist to add a little detail to your comfy look. This makes your outfit look more like a complete rather than just wearing plain sweatpants. If you don’t have joggers, you could easily wear leggings since the denim jacket will cover everything.

Outfit #8: Graphic Tee, Mini Skirt & Cardigan
This look is great for a night out with the girls or date night! Heck, it’s comfy with sneakers, so I would run errands in this look too if I was feeling a little “extra” 😉

Outfit #9: Oversized Shirt, Graphic Tee & Mini Skirt
Same as the last outfit, this is great for casual date night, girls night, lunch or running errands.

Outfit #10: Oversized shirt, Graphic Tee & Jeans
I love this look for every day around the house or all those errands you have to get done! I would even wear this to lunch or casual date night. I am just not fancy enough to always be in dresses for date night, HA! If you wanted to dress it up a little bit, you could swap the sneakers for heels. I am wearing mom jeans in this picture, but you can wear whatever jeans you feel most comfortable in.

Outfit #11: Chambray Top & White Denim
There could not be a more classic spring outfit than this! Will this simple look ever go out of style? I hope not! 🙂 This look is so easy and is great for all sorts of occasions. For instance, brunch, work (without distressed denim), church (if your church is more casual), date night, errands, etc! You get the picture. You can basically wear this outfit anywhere. You can dress it up or down depending on the type of jeans and shoes you pair the top with!

I hope this helps you get the most out of what you already have in your closet! In case you do not have some of these pieces and have the budget to add a few new affordable pieces to your wardrobe, I am going to link a few similar items from my favorite retailers below.

Have fun “shopping” your own closet and making new outfits with what you have! Happy almost spring, loves!

How to Get Beach Waves Hairstyle

If you’re like me, you’re always searching for quick, simple hair styles. As a new mom, I am looking for natural hairstyles that will hold up in between washes. One of my go to looks is beachy waves. I love how the curls hold up and its easy to do. Unfortunately, it’s not super quick for me because I have so much hair, but if you have a normal amount of hair, this look should be quick and easy for you to achieve — HA!

I will walk you through step by step, but here are a few things to note. I always do this with clean hair, because these curls hold up well for days and can be styled many different ways in between washes. For example, a cute half up messy bun or a beachy pony tail. Also, I am always sure to use heat protector on my hair before styling. I use a 3/4 inch curling iron when creating these loose, beachy waves.

Achieving Beachy Waves Step-By-Step:

  1. Section hair off if you have thick hair
  2. Grab a small piece of hair
  3. Wrap hair around curling iron HORIZONTALLY
  4. Hold curling iron horizontally for a few seconds
  5. Repeat until your whole head is curled
  6. Brush curls out with fingers for a more natural, “lived in” look
  7. Add texture spray for added volume and dimension
  8. Use hairspray if desired

Check out my INSTAGRAM highlights to watch a video tutorial!

Now that you have your beachy waves, throw on your favorite leggings and enjoy a nice night in on the couch HAHA (thanks Covid).

3 Work to Weekend Outfits

Sweater: J. Crew Factory | Shorts: Old Navy | Sneakers: DSW

Almost everything in my closet can be worn multiple ways! I especially like to buy pieces I can wear to work and then dress down for the weekend as well. Often times the switch from workwear to casual can be as easy as swapping dress pants for denim. Other times you may need to swap out layering pieces as well as bottoms and shoes.

Today I want to show you 3 tops that can be worn to the office or on the weekend.

  1. Peplum Top: This top (or any peplum top) can easily be styled for work or the weekend. For work, pair it with dress pants or a pencil skirt, heels and some nice jewelry and you are ready to conquer the day. After work, swap out the dress pants for denim and you’re good to go! This top is easy to transition from work to casual. Check out my Instagram to see how I recently wore this top casually with the cutest maroon hair scarf!
Top (Also comes in black and white) | Dress Pants | Denim | Heels

2. Chunky Sweater: For the office, layer your sweater with a collared shirt and pair it with dress pants and heels. Over the weekend, grab a denim jacket, jeans and booties and you are ready for a casual date or a Target run!

Sweater (Also comes in pink and black) | Pants | Denim(Similar) | Jacket | Heels | Booties

3. Tailored Sweater: I especially like this exact sweater because of the light weight material. I also really like how the collar and sweater are all one piece. This is not two separate tops. At the office, this sweater would go nicely with dress pants, chinos or a skirt. For the weekend, swap the dress pants for shorts or denim, add some sneakers or booties and go run those errands.

Sweater (Also comes in black and navy) | Pants | Shorts | Sneakers

Whether you’re conquering the work day or checking off everything on your weekend to-do list, I know you’re going to look cute doing it! Go do your thing, girl. You rock!

How to Wear a Gingham Skirt

Top: H&M | Skirt: H&M (Similar) | Hat: H&M (Similar) | Shoes: DSW

I am giddy over gingham this summer! I had so much fun taking these photos all thanks to the gingham print (and my hubby of course). This may sound weird, but my mood instantly changed when I put this skirt on. It’s just so fun! I am not the only one who is loving gingham this season. I have been seeing gingham ALL OVER this summer! Because gingham print is such a hit this season, I decided I would share six ways to wear one gingham skirt.

How to wear a gingham skirt six ways:

  1. Utility Jacket: For a casual look, throw on your utility jacket and sneakers and you are ready to run errands or hangout with the girls.
  2. Fruit Print: I think gingham looks super cute with subtle fruit print tops. This look is also more casual. This easy outfit is perfect for summer.
  3. Graphic T-Shirt: If you’re looking to be extra casual, throw on a graphic tee. I think this look is super trendy and fun. You can tie the front into a knot or tuck it in. This is another cute errand outfit.
  4. Bright Colors: Wear bright colors like red or neon to really make the gingham print pop! This is such a fun look and would be great for a lunch date. I think this is a cute look for a baseball game, too!
  5. Black: For a more classic look, pair your gingham print with a simple black top. I went for my favorite smocked, peplum tank! This is a cute look for date night or going out.
  6. White (See above photos): Pairing your gingham skirt with a white sleeveless top and a hat gives off major summer vibes. This outfit is super versatile. You can wear this for errands, brunch, date night, summer parties and more!
Utility Jacket | Cherry Tee | Graphic Tee | Red Top | Black Tank | Sneakers

I also wanted to share some other gingham and matching pieces I am crushing on!

I hope this helps you the next time you go to wear your gingham print! Be sure to tag me on Instagram so I can see how you styled your gingham this summer!

How to Wear Paper Bag Pants

Top: Banana Republic | Pants: H&M , (Similar)| Necklace: Target | Shoes: DSW

By now, most of us have seen paper bag pants (or shorts) online and in stores. Many of us own a pair or two also, but do you know how to style them now that you have them in your closet? I have heard a few women mention they weren’t sure how they felt about this style of pant, but I think that is because they are just a little unsure how to style them. I am here to help! I absolutely love this trend and I think you can style paper bag pants multiple ways for many types of occasions

Before we get to the styling, you must know — I found THE MOST comfortable paper bag pants! These pants have an elastic waist and are made of a soft material. You almost feel like you’re wearing pajamas, while still looking nice and put together. I was so pleasantly surprised when I put these on. Some paper bag pants have zippers and clasps and that can get uncomfortable when trying to tuck a shirt into them or after you have eaten too much at brunch (oops). Another great thing about these pants is they are only $25!

This particular pair of pants can be dressed up or worn more casually. The photos above show the more dressy way to wear them, but you can easily throw on sandals and a casual top and you are ready to run some errands or meet the girls for some tacos.

Ways to Style our Paper Bag Pants (Or Shorts)

  1. Cami: Whether you’re going to brunch or the office (you may need to grab a blazer), pairing a simple cami with your paper bag pants is a great way to look classy and on trend. Be sure to tuck your top into your pants to really show off the paper bag effect!
  2. Button Down: If your work dress code doesn’t allow camisoles, swap the cami for your favorite sleeveless button down. You will wow the people in your meeting by looking professional and still fun. Check out my post from last week if you are looking for a great sleeveless button down (It’s only $13)!
  3. T-shirt: There are two ways you can wear a t-shirt with your paper bag pants (or shorts). The first way is to simply just tuck it into your pants. I would wear a fitted tee when going for this look. Pair that with some sandals and you are ready for errands or meeting the girls for lunch. The second way is to tie the t-shirt into a knot. This will give you more of a cropped top. I do not suggest paring the knot with pants that already have a tie. If you are looking for a pair of shorts to wear with a knotted t-shirt here are my picks: Shorts, Denim Shorts
  4. Bodysuit: This is another great errands look! Grab your favorite bodysuit, sandals and a hat if you’re feeling it and you will be the most stylish girl making a last minute trip to the grocery. If you have date night planned after your groceries, just swap the sandals for heels, grab your favorite necklace and head out with your man!

I hope this gives you the confidence you need next time you grab your paper bag pants! Feel free to reach out with any styling questions you may have!

How to Wear a Sleeveless Button Down Top

Top: H&M | Pants: Loft (Similar Gray, Similar Blue) | Shoes: DSW | Earrings: Loft (Similar)

Sleeveless button down (do you say “button down” or “button up?”) tops have been around for awhile now, but are still so popular and cute! This classic piece is one you need in your closet this summer. Button down shirts are easy to style and you automatically look put together while wearing one! I found the perfect one for you! It’s light weight, inexpensive (Only $13!), good quality and it’s not see through! It really is the perfect basic piece as we head into summer.

This top is great for so many occasions: work, errands, brunch, Target runs, etc. You can dress this top for almost any occasion. In the above photos, I am dressed for work. This is an easy way to look modest and professional while remaining stylish! The pants I am wearing are last years, but I was sure to link this year’s version (Same pants, a little different shade of gray). These LOFT dress pants have been perfect during the spring and summer months because of the light weight material and a light color.

Here are 6 Ways to Style One Top:

  1. White Denim: This all white look makes you look extra stylish for your casual brunch with the girls. I have always been a fan of the white-on-white look.
  2. Denim Mini Skirt: Unbutton the last two buttons and tie this shirt into a cute front knot. This look is cute for a casual lunch date.
  3. Paperbag Shorts: If you are going on a dinner date and don’t feel like wearing a dress, this is the perfect alternative! You look nice and put together while remaining comfortable. Just tuck this top into your favorite high waisted shorts and throw on some low heels and you’re ready to go!
  4. Boyfriend Jeans: When you’re feeling extra casual but still want to look cute, this is the look for you! Tie this shirt into a front knot, grab your boyfriend jeans and favorite mules and you are ready for that Target run you know you’re going to make.
  5. Denim Shorts: This is the most casual of the looks, but still looks put together. Tucking your top into your denim shorts polishes this look. Pair this with your sneakers and go conquer your to-do list! You can even chase after kiddos in this outfit (don’t let them get your white shirt dirty though HA!).
  6. Dress Pants (Shown above): Like I said earlier, this lightweight top looks professional when paired with your dress pants. It is a great way to feel comfortable and cool while still being work appropriate. I love how this top is modest too. You don’t have to worry about showing any cleavage during a meeting.
1. Jeans (Similar), Shoes | 2. Skirt (Similar), Shoes | 3. Shorts (Similar), Shoes | 4. Jeans (Similar), Shoes | 5. Shorts, Shoes (Similar)

Top: The Shabby Closet (discount code: brittany10)| Jeans: Hollister | Shoes: DSW

Happy Spring, Lovelies! Just knowing it’s officially spring makes me extra happy! You know what else makes me happy? New fashion boutiques like The Shabby Closet! As a new blogger, it is so fun to work with a new boutique and help each other out on our journeys.

One of my favorite items from The Shabby Closet is their Striped Contrast Long Shirt. I think this is a must-have for spring and summer, because it is extremely versatile! I have styled this long shirt 4 different ways, but the possibilities are endless! In addition to the ways I shared below, you could also wear this top front tucked or as a swimsuit cover!

This top comes in small, medium and large. I was slightly nervous when I saw that, because I typically wear an extra small in tops. Although it is a little loose on me, I think it still works! The extra fabric in this shirt makes it great to style multiple ways. If you are in between sizes normally, I suggest sizing down.

Here are 4 ways to style this Striped Contrast Long Shirt:

  1. Button Up: Wear this top buttoned up with jeans for a chic, edgy look.
  2. Tied up with shorts: Paring the knot detail with your favorite denim shorts is a perfect look for summer! Add some sneakers and you’re ready to go to lunch with your bestie!
  3. Unbutton with dress: Looking to add a little fun to your LBD? Throw this on this top, add a belt and you instantly have a fashionable outfit.
  4. Tied up with jeans (shown above): For those of us who live where it’s too chilly to rock this top with shorts, tie it up and throw on your favorite dark jeans! You are going to look so put together and people will definitely be asking where you got your top!

I am excited to share 9 ways to style your camo t-shirt dress, because I am so in love with the camouflage print this season! Are you?

First thing first, if you haven’t found your favorite camo dress yet, take a look at a few of my favorites! Unfortunately, the one I am wearing was a T.J. Maxx find and sold out this week. I have linked a few other options for you!

  1. Casual Heels: Add some casual heels to your t-shirt dress for the a great casual date outfit!

  3. Denim Jacket Around Your Waist: Another more casual way to show off your form is to tie a denim jacket around your waste.
  4. Sneakers: This is the most causal way to style this dress. Just wear it as is and throw on your favorite sneakers! This look is perfect for running errands.
  5. Denim Jacket: Throw on your favorite denim jacket to make this look feel more complete. If you still have your sneakers on, this outfit is perfect for your daily Starbucks or Target run with your girls.

  7. Long Cardigan: Another way to dress up this look is to add a long cardigan! It brings a touch of sophistication, while remaining comfy and casual.

  9. White Denim Jacket: White denim and white sneakers really bring out the “spring” vibe! This is a great way to style your dress as we transition into the spring season.

3. Denim Jacket Around Your Waist
4. Sneakers

How to Wear an Embroidered Jacket

Jacket: T.J.Maxx | Cami: Abercrombie | Skirt: J. Crew Factory | Shoes: Gap (Similar)

We made it to Friday! This week has been a long one for me, after my Instagram account was hacked and I lost half my content. I’m not going to let that keep me down though, especially when I have this SUPER cute jacket to share with you all!

With spring just around the corner, I was thrilled when I found this denim jacket (from T.J.Maxx!) with the beautiful floral embroidery. It’s the perfect layering piece for our (slow) transition into warmer weather.

Here are 5 ways to style your embroidered, denim jacket —

  1. Black jeans: Keep the bottoms simple so the details on your jacket can shine! This specific jacket is light, so it really pops against the black denim.
  2. Stripes: Okay, I know I just said to keep the base simple and let the embroidery detail speak for itself, but if you want to spice up your outfit, throw some stripes under the jacket!
  3. Romper: Same principle applies — dark base piece to let the beautiful embroidery steal the show. This look is great for spring and summer nights! I think most rompers would be cute with this jacket, really.
  4. Business Casual: What?! Wearing an edgy jacket to the office? Crazy! Pairing a fun denim jacket with a nice cami and dress pants can really add some fun to your office look! After work, throw on some dark denim and you’re ready to go out. Easy-peasy.
  5. Colorful Mini skirt [pictured above]: While it’s still too chilly to wear a miniskirt and cami alone, throw on your jacket to add more texture and to complete the look. You won’t freeze your bum off that way either! I love the combination of detail in this skirt and jacket.

This T.J.Maxx find is great and it’s still on their website!! It’s on sale now for under $60 and is selling fast! Here is the link. Enjoy!
